The adrenal gland is responsible for maintaining normal body balance by producing hormones that have an affect on sodium, sugar and other substances. Sometimes the adrenal gland needs to be removed for various reasons, the most common being cancer. This involves surgery to enter the abdomen and then carefully dissect out the abnormal gland and submit it for evaluation.  Prognosis depends on the size and invasiveness of the mass and the diagnosis of it.
