Just like in people, there are some dogs and cats that have difficulty giving birth naturally. Some breeds are predisposed to this problem more than others and many times, the owners of those animals have the c-section scheduled with their primary veterinarian. MECA will perform these procedures on an emergency basis as needed.

The C-Section Surgical Procedure

The Cesarian section requires general anesthesia and surgery to remove the puppies or kittens. Once they are out, the mother is recovered as quickly as possible and they are all sent home shortly.  We do not like to keep the puppies and kittens in the hospital very long.
